Quilts for kids are the topic of Patchwork Magazine to be published in July. This week I have finished my model. It was love at first sight to find this charming fabric with its various small patterns inside the letters and the beautiful colors (which also are suitable for both girls and boys). I could not resist. The result is a quilt very simple to duplicate. Quickly assembled in an afternoon it makes a very special gift for the new born, your godchild, or the sweet niece. When quilting, I wanted a very soft effect, as a play mat or blanket for snuggling in bed: A thick polyester batting and only a few quilted lines give it a soft look: Large concentric circles in the middle - loops along the edge. The backing is made from a cute white fabric, covered with small red letters. The magazine will be published on 06th July - a quiltkit will be available.

Kinderquilts sind das Thema vom Patchworkmagazin, das im Juli erscheinen wird. Diese Woche hab ich das Modell fertiggenäht. Mit diesem bezaubernden Stoff mit seinen verschiedenen kleinen Müsterchen in den Buchstaben und der schönen Farbauswahl (die auch noch gleichermaßen für Mädchen und Jungen passend ist) war es Liebe auf den ersten Blick. Ich konnte nicht dran vorbei.
Herausgekommen ist ein ganz simpel nachzuarbeitender Quilt, ruckzuck an einem Nachmittag zusammengesetzt und ein ganz besonders schönes Geschenk für den Neuankömmling, das Patenkind oder die süße Nichte.

Beim Quilten wollte ich einen besonders weichen Effekt, als Krabbeldecke oder zum Drunterkuscheln im Bett: Ein dickes Polyestervlies und nur wenige Stepplinien machen die Decke weich: Großzügige zentrische Kreise in der Mitte – verspielte Schlangenlinien am Rand.

Die Rückseite ist ein niedlicher weißer Stoff, übersät mit kleinen roten Buchstaben.

Das Heft erscheint am 06. Juli – dann gibt’s das Quiltset zu kaufen.

Timeless Lonni Rossi

Unique are the fabric lines of Lonni Rossi, whose style is definitely beyond mainstream. Her artistic prints are always complex, mixed of different layers and often gold plays a role as a color. Martina made her quilt from Lonni’s line "Cultivated Cotton" and she gave it to me for quilting. It will be displayed on the wall of an office room and I enhanced the style of the artistic fabrics by redrawing the picturesque shapes with a golden thread.

Zeitlose Lonni Rossi

Einzigartig sind die Stoffkollektionen von Lonni Rossi, deren Design sich nicht einfach in eine Schublade einordnen lässt. Ihre kunstvollen Drucke sind immer vielschichtig und oft spielt Gold als Farbe eine Rolle.
Martina hat ihren Quilt aus der Linie „Cultivated Cotton“ genäht und ihn mir zum Quilten anvertraut. Er wird an der Wand eines Arbeitszimmers hängen und ich hab den Stil der Stoffdrucke unterstrichen, indem ich die malerischen Formen mit einem Goldfaden nachgezeichnet habe.

Mass triangles

Beinahe 1000 Dreiecksblöckchen (naja, beinaaaahhh). Ich schreibe gerade ein Tutorial für Quilter's Garden: Schnelle Methode für massenhaft perfekte Halfsquaretriangles.

A royal quilt

according to my son who was impressed by the deep, rich, soft blue and red colors reminding of the Royals. The Queen wrapped in this Irish Chain quilt – how would my customer who has sewn this top like that thought? In order to quilt it in a corresponding style, I stitched along the lines of the dark blue chain and in the middle of each on-point square I set a star flower.

Ein königlicher Quilt,

das sagte zumindest mein Sohn, den das tiefe, satte, weiche Blau und Rot an typische Farben der Royals erinnerte. Die Queen eingehüllt in diesen Irish Chain Quilt. Was würde wohl meine Kundin dazu sagen, die dieses Top genäht hat? Um ihn stilgerecht zu quilten habe ich entlang den Konturen der dunkelblauen Chain gesteppt und in die Mitte eines jeden on-point-Quadrats eine Sternenblume gesetzt.

Falling in love with Lucy

Some women of my age are very excited to tell about their first grand children (well, those are the very early ones). And of course, the first grandchild will be wrapped in a beautiful quilt. I've become also a grandma. A "cat granny" - because my daughter has recently got a little cat - sweet, pretty, smart - with whom she has visited me at the weekend. It happened to me too, I'm also that "oh let me sew something wonderful for this sweet being" victim. Is it really true or is it just me thinking that cats love the quilts and snuggle in it with preference? Even during the sewing process, as only two! rows (10 cm) were laid out on the floor for composing the set, Lucy has placed herself exactly on this little piece, even getting her tail fitting on those four inches, and looking upon us in a matter saying "mine” . Manche Frauen in meinem Alter erzählen schon ganz begeistert von ihren ersten Enkelkindern (na gut, die ganz früh dran waren). Und natürlich werden die ersten Enkel in froher Erwartung mit einem hübschen Quilt empfangen.
Ich bin auch Oma geworden. Eine „Katzenoma“ – denn meine Tochter hat seit einigen Wochen eine kleine Katze - süß, hübsch, smart – mit der sie mich am Wochenende besucht hat. Es ist mir auch passiert, ich bin auch diesem „ich näh was schönes für dieses süße Wesen Virus“ zum Opfer gefallen. Bilde ich es mir nur ein, oder stimmt es tatsächlich, dass Katzen die Quilts lieben und sich mit Vorliebe darauf kuscheln? Schon im Entstehungsprozess, als nur zwei ! Reihen (10 cm breit) auf dem Fußboden zum Zusammensetzten des Sets auslagen, hat sich Lucy millimetergenau auf diese Reihen draufplatziert, den Schwanz noch so um sich geschlängelt, dass er auch noch auf die zehn Zentimeter passte und uns angesehen als wollte sie sagen „meins“.

Batik Beauty

Several weeks ago I launched a kind of contest on my customer's community blog. They sent me a photo of their tops and the winner (choosen by polling) got a free quilting service from me.
