Quilt Now Issue 43 arrived recently at newsstands. A copy of this modern quilt magazine dropped into my mailbox as a reference sample. Oh how excited I was to stroll through the pages and find so many Zen Chici things here and there. The main reason I got the reference sample was, that they feature an interview with me. A designer portrait, Q&A style. So lets stroll together through the magazine, shall we? Grab a cup of coffee, find a cozy place and let's have a bit fun:

You know, I am a lover of Scandinavian Design and minimalism, and so I was interested in reading Katie Garnet's article about how has Scandi chic translated into the region's quilting style?  Strolling through the pages, I discovered my fabric lines TRUE BLUE and FRAGILE in the section Favorite Fabric Finds of the Month.

And not only the swatches were shown, no: TWO quilts featuring the collection TRUE BLUE are in this magazine with complete instructions. I'm totally in love with these two quilts made by Naomi Clarke. Both of them are English paper pieced. Don't they look just gorgeous?

And then there is a

a Q&A-style interview, which I had with Quilt Now. It's about how what is on my sewing table, what collections I will have in 2018, Christmas gift ideas, tips for making a modern quilt.

MODERN PATCHWORK MAGAZINE and FOR YOU

I’m more than thrilled to hold the new issue of Modern Patchwork and see the Bouncing Balls wall hanger, made from my new line FOR YOU with MODA on the cover – yeah, it’s a cover girl!

The pattern uses a drunkard’s path block. It requires a layer cake and some solids. You will sew 36 blocks and each of the blocks uses one layer of the 42 fabric swatches of a layer cake (so you’ll have some left overs for a pillow). The large circles show the different fabric designs beautifully – don’t sew this quilt with just blenders, use your most favorite prints and let them show up. Since my fabric line has a wide variety of colors I could use that for my advantage and build a gradient from warm to cool. I filled the background of the circles with solids supporting this gradient.

 

 

 

 

 

By the way – since this spring I’m designer for a quilting motif company and create some quilting designs which you can buy online – either as a stencil or as a paper or digital pattern for a longarm machine. The loops in the circles and the scissors are both my motifs for www.quiltingcreations.com. You will find more of my quilt motifs like glasses or TVs there…

As a designer for modern fabrics and for quilt patterns I was recently invited to be featured in the premier issue of ROOM TO CREATE. Finally I may reveal a secret…

when the postman rang at my door yesterday he had an envelope from U.S. to deliver. Inside there was a sample issue of “Fons and Porter, Love of Quilting” featuring my quilt White Labyrinth. How exciting is this!

Well, as wonderful as it is  reaching not only the modern quilters’ taste and the readers of newest Quilt Scene with my style but also a group of traditional quilters who love using their skills and experiences to make an elegant quilt like this Log Cabin version – to tell about being featured is not a secret.

 

 

But now – take a closer look and see this - what I’m simply enthusiastically thrilled about …

When I came home last May from Quilt Market, I reported about all the warm welcome I got and the opportunities opening and that all effort was worth it and that there is something in the air. At this time I had to keep it for myself until it becomes official, and now I can finally tell you all about this:

My fabrics are produced by Moda! They are right now in the mill for strike offs and will be presented on the Spring Quilt Market in Kansas this May. Bolts will be available in stores soon!
Can you imagine how exciting it is to see a selvedge with your name on it? It feels like 10 Christmases and Easters falling together when you find yourself finally at a point on your way which has been a long dreamed goal. I couldn’t be more excited!

To work with one of the leading quilt fabric manufacturers is not only an honor for me, it’s an inspiration, it fuels my flame of creativity, it helps me grow in what I’m doing as a designer. We even have a second fabric line for fall on our schedule. I so love to join the Moda designers, to be “a new member of the family”. I can honestly say I’m just grateful.

Thanks to you all who love my approach to quilts, who encourage me to be authentic in my style, who cheer me up in my creativity!
It means a lot to me!

Als der Briefträger gestern an meiner Tür klingelte, hatte er einen Umschlag aus USA in der Hand. Er brachte mir ein Referenzexemplar von “Fons and Porter, Love of Quilting”, das meinen Quilt White Labyrinth veröffentlicht. Wie schön!

Nun – so gerne ich es sehe, nicht nur den Geschmack der modernen Quilter oder Leser der neuesten “Quilt Scene” zu erreichen, sondern auch eine Gruppe eher traditioneller Quilterinnen, die mit ihren handwerklichen Fertigkeiten und ihrem Erfahrungsschatz auch gerne einen eleganten Log Cabin nähen  - über diesen Zeitschriftenbeitrag zu erzählen, ist jetzt kein Geheimnis.

Aber nun schau etwas genauer hin, dann entdeckst du das, was mein Herz einfach vor Freude springen lässt:

Als ich letzten Mai vom Quilt Market zurückkam, berichtete ich über die herzliche Aufnahme, all die Möglichkeiten, die sich aufgetan hatten, und dass sich all meine Anstrengungen ausgezahlt hatten und – dass da noch etwas in der Luft liegt. Damals musste ich diese Neuigkeit noch für mich behalten, bis sie offiziell wurde, und jetzt kann ich es endlich verraten:

Meine Stoffe werden von Moda produziert! Momentan sind sie gerade für erste Vorabproben in der Druckerei und werden im Mai auf dem Quilt Market in Kansas auf den Markt gebracht. Die Stoffe werden also schon bald in den Läden als Meterware zu kaufen sein!
Kannst du dir vorstellen, wie toll es sich anfühlt, wenn man eine Webkante mit dem eigenen Namen darauf in Händen hält? Es fühlt sich für mich an wie 10 Weihnachten und Ostern zusammen, wenn man auf seiner Wegstrecke an einem lang geträumten Ziel ankommt. Ich freu mich riesig!

Mit einer Firma zu arbeiten, die auf dem Quiltstoffmarkt mit führend ist, ist nicht nur eine gewisse Ehre für mich, es ist eine Inspiration, schürt meine Kreativität, hilft mir mich in meiner Arbeit als Designerin weiter zu entwickeln.
Es gibt sogar schon eine zweite Kollektion für die Herbstmesse.
Ich bin wirklich happy damit, zu den Modadesignern zu gehören und in diesem sehr familiären Team zu arbeiten.

Five must have magazines for the modern quilter – a quilting magazines review

Of course you don’t have to subscribe to all of them at the same time, but a copy of this and an issue of another magazine is in any case a wonderful inspiration for modern quilters and a great creative resource.
They are simply in alphabetical order.

1. Down under Quilts

is bursting with informative articles and original and exclusive project patterns that will satisfy quilters looking for that 'special something' to stimulate their creativity. Down Under Quilts shares compelling stories about Australian quilters and their quilts, and regular features written by quilting experts. Readers look to DUQ to keep up with the latest techniques and news. It’s full of content about new fabrics, designers and the projects are all contemporary. I like it for its inspirational style. The magazine is very generous; it provides a free online view.

2. Quilter's home

brings a lot of creative ideas and patterns for the modern quilter, although in my opinion the magazine’s greatest strength is to entertain people in a cheeky way. Mark Lipinski, former editor, took pride in showing the "irreverent" side of quilting as in, "Shocking Quilts: We Show You the Controversial Patchwork." Advertised right on the cover of Quilter's Home, including a Viagra-inspired quilt which has caused a stir at some shows. One of the reasons why this magazine gets a lot of letters and comments from readers discussing the today’s quilt scene. Reading the magazine gives you the feeling of being a part of the ‘rebel’ quilting community.

3. Quilting Arts

is described as a magazine covering the latest techniques in art and embellished quilting, wearable arts, mixed media, surface design, and other textile arts. It features guest artists and teachers, and addresses a wide range of skills including surface embroidery, thread painting, stamping, and fabric painting. For everyone who is more in the artsy segment of modern quilting this is a magazine bursting from creative inspiration!

4. Quilts and more

Whether you're an experienced quilter or just starting out, this light reading magazine will be your friend. It's full packed of projects and inspiration, and not only for large bed quilts, but mainly for much smaller and more manageable projects, including things like table runners, and some cute purses. An easy to follow read.

5. Stitch

(this is my current personal favourite sewing magazine). Stitch says about its offer: “Our focus is on contemporary sewing that celebrates the handmade style”. It inspires with ideas for clothing, accessories or home decor items which are way of innovative. The magazine is also available in a digital format and instantly downloadable. For anyone who looks for great sewing ideas beyond only quilts.

randvoll mit informativen Artikeln und originellen und exklusiven Nähanleitungen, um Kreativität zu stimulieren und den Quilterinnen mit der Suche nach dem 'gewissen Etwas' gerecht zu werden. Down Under Quilts erzählt interessante Geschichten über australische Quilterinnen und ihre Quilts und bringt regelmäßig von Quiltexpertinnen geschriebene Artikel. Leser halten sich mit DUQ über die neuesten Techniken und Nachrichten auf dem Laufenden, denn es ist voll von Inhalten über neue Stoffe, Designer und die Projekte sind durchweg modern. Ich mag es, für seinen inspirierenden Stil. Das Magazin ist sehr großzügig, es bietet eine kostenlose Online-Ansicht.

2. Quilter's Home

bringt eine Menge kreativer Ideen und Modelle für die moderne Quilterin, obwohl meiner Meinung nach die größte Stärke des Magazins darin liegt, Menschen in einer frechen Art und Weise zu unterhalten. Mark Lipinski, ehemaliger Redakteur, war stolz auf die die "respektlose" Seite der Quilts, die er zeigte, wie im Artikel "Shocking Quilts: Wir zeigen Ihnen umstrittenes Patchwork", angekündigt rechts auf dem Cover von Quilter's Home, einer Ausgabe mit einem Viagra-inspirierten Quilt, der bei einigen Shows Aufruhr verursachte. Einer der Gründe, warum dieses Magazin eine Menge von Briefen und Anmerkungen von Lesern bekommt, die die heutige Quilt-Szene diskutieren. Diese Zeitschrift zu lesen gibt einem das Gefühl, ein Teil der "rebellischen" Quilter-Gemeinschaft zu sein.

3. Quilting Arts

ist ein Magazin über die neuesten Techniken im Bereich Art Quilt, es publiziert tragbare Kunst, Techniken mit gemischten Materialien, Oberflächengestaltung und andere textile Kunst. Quilting Arts präsentiert als Gäste Künstler und Lehrer, und erweitert eine Vielzahl von Fähigkeiten, einschließlich Threadpainting, Stickerei, Handdruck mit Stempeln und Stoffmalerei. Für alle, die mehr im künstlerischen Segment der modernen Quiltens zuhause sind ist dies ist ein Magazin, das randvoll mit kreativen Inspirationen aufwartet!

4. Quilts and more

Ob Sie nun schon ein erfahrener Quilter sind oder gerade erst anfangen, dieses leicht zu lesende Magazin voller moderner Modelle und Inspiration zeigt nicht nur große Bettdecken, sondern vor allem viele kleinere und überschaubare Projekte, einschließlich solcher Dinge wie Tischläufer und einige nette Täschchen. Einfach und leicht nachzuarbeiten.

5. Stitch

(dies ist mein aktueller persönlicher Favorit). Das Magazin sagt über sein Angebot: "Unser Schwerpunkt liegt auf zeitgemäßem Nähen, dass dabei den Stil des Handgefertigten zelebriert". Es begeistert mit Ideen für Kleidung, Accessoires oder Kleinen Einrichtungsdekos, die in gewisser Weise innovativ sind. Das Magazin gibt es auch in einem digitalen Format, das sofort heruntergeladen werden kann. Für jeden der tolle Nähideen auch über das Quilten hinaus sucht.
