A Moda Odyssea Jelly Roll Quilt

Mittwoch, 12. Oktober 2011

Last year I sold the Odyssea Jelly Rolls in my shop and provided also a quilt pattern featuring these nice fabric line of MoMo.

Martina realized the pattern by this beautiful bed quilt and I got it for the long arm quilting in my service. I decided for the print of water bubbles (also from the Odyssea group) as a backing and this inspired me to quilt the blanket with some huge bubbles. They add a cosy look to the straight quilt pattern.

What did you do recently with a Jelly Roll? Any pictures?

Pattern choices for the modern quilter

Dienstag, 11. Oktober 2011

If you think you have missed a post – fabric choices for the red color scheme of last week – don’t worry, there wasn’t any. Because – I think this palette looks wonderful made from just solids. What do you think?

pattern choices fire quilted

Instead of the fabric choices I added a quilting pattern to this post.
Now you will hate me – where do one find all the different shades of reds and raspberry will you ask (and honestly I don’t know about a solids palette which has these variations of red, maybe the Bella Solids). And second – how will one sew all those pieces together, huge circles, how should that work? And third – how can one quilt these mega spirals accurately with a machine? Maybe hand quilting will do, but won’t look that precise.

You will be right. It’s so much easier to play around with my computer application than realize such a quilt. Although I’d love the challenge. But besides the not very practical realization of the design, would you like it?

Or should I add a wide border so it looks like a framed graphic in an exhibition?

Was meinst du?

Quilt scene – new issue for modern Quilters from Interweave

Sonntag, 9. Oktober 2011

 pC1 Front Cover.indd

I was so thrilled when I found this week’s interweave newsletter in my mailbox announcing the upcoming yearly issue of quilt scene where all the new trends of the Quilt Market are discussed and seeing my own sample of a ZEN CHIC model featured. How cool is that. Honestly I’ve never dreamed of something like this when I quitted my job as an accountant two years ago. For my table runner (without binding) I designed a clear and calm background with rounded shapes and enhanced it by my prints.
You will find also projects from Elisabeth Hartmann, Marcia Derse, Valorie Wells and other cool modern quilters, so it’s really worth to buy a copy or at least have the digital version.

There is another issue I’m planning a project for. It’s more a small project I should do. What kind of object would you like me to design in the ZEN CHIC style? Something for a table, for a couch, for a sleeping room? Leave a suggestion, please!

Inside Quilt Scene 2011

I pin-did

Freitag, 7. Oktober 2011

Pinterest is one of my most inspirational places to stroll through and I got tons of great ideas out of it. So no wonder it’s easy for me to submit an entry to the Modern Marigold’s Pin-did challenge. People link to what they have made from pinterest inspiration.

I recently gathered some ideas for my birthday party in November. My invitation cards are inspired from Pinterest. A collage of snippets of paper glued on an envelope.

Since the theme of my party will be “scrabble” or “crossword” (my guests may figure out some details about the 50 years of my life by filling out a crossword puzzles and finding answers to questions like “what did Brigitte do on third of March 1983?”) so the envelopes got some snippets of puzzles too.

Do you have boards on pinterest? Send a link!

And don’t miss to send a submission to Farbstoff’s challenge: October Pillow Talk, you can win a cute bundle of Sweetwater’s Christmas fabrics.

Pin-did challenge von the Modern Marigold einen kleinen Beitrag beizusteuern.

Color choices for the modern quilter

Dienstag, 4. Oktober 2011

Red – red is a color often way too vibrant for me to get others in combination to (besides the classic red white combination). But then I found this picture below inside the magazine “Color made easy” – and yes, that made it easy for me to find a red and also fresh color scheme.

Which shades do you like to combine with a tomato red? Have you pictures of projects to show? Link to them in the comments below.

Triangle Purse

Montag, 3. Oktober 2011

Recently my eyes caught some nice fabric triangle purses while surfing the internet at craftpassion.com. The idea comes from those yummy rice wraps.

I’m not from Asia but I’m also familiar with these pyramid shapes since my childhood: I’ve got some orange juice packages in my school bag, called Sunkist.

Ok, here are the ones I made from fabric. You could put some candies inside or some coins or your lipstick. And they are pretty easy to sew. I made a tutorial, members can find it at Quilter’s Garden.

And wait – there’s another thing I’d like to share. Strolling over Soest’s fabric market I found a booth of jewelry. I couldn’t resist to this cute necklace which's beads look like little globes. What do you think? Great idea, or? Just paper glued on wooden beads.

Hmmmm…

October’s Pillow Talk

Samstag, 1. Oktober 2011

Thank you for all your entries in the September’s Pillow Talk. We had really beautiful pillows to showcase.

And I know there were bloggers who liked the idea but didn’t find the time to jump in so fast in this activity so hopefully you can make it this month – I’d love to see all your creative ideas!

Since we move forward to the time we start sewing for Christmas this month’s prize is a BEAUTIFUL (I may say that, because the fabrics are not my line so I am still humble ;-)  ), ok- a beautiful assortment of 9 Fat Eights from the collection “Count down to Christmas” by Sweetwater for Moda (I love their style playing with letters and giving these Christmas fabrics a modern and graphic touch).

Who wouldn’t love to own these…

countdown to christmasMODA-5451-11_k

So if you’re new to my Pillow Talk find all the details about how to enter and the button for your blog here  where you can send your entry to the linky. If you don't have time to sew something new, you can enter any pillow you have made in the past year, as long as you put up a new post - so feel free to show off something you already made.
