Plum Cake - Pflaumendatschi

Freitag, 27. August 2010

As you asked for the reciepe when I posted about my self made plum cake on facebook
- here it is (please excuse for any funny spelling mistakes; my English is not that good for writing cooking reciepes):

You need
200 ml milk
75 g butter
375 g flour
1 Pck. dry yeast
50 g sugar
1 Pck. vanilla
1 pinch of salt
1 egg
1 kg fresh plums
For the "Streusel" (on top of the plums):
300 g flour
150 g sugar
1 Pck. Vanilla
200 g margarine

Heat milk and melt the butter in it. Put the flour in a bowl and mix it with the yeast, sugar, vanilla, salt. Add the egg and fat-milk-mixture and make a smooth dough. Cover dough and let go until it doubles its size (about 20 minutes).
Wash plums, remove the stalks, halve and pit them. Mix the ingredients for the topping with an electric mixer so they crumble. On lightly floured surface knead the dough and roll it out into acookie sheet. Cover the dough with plums and put the Streusel evenly on it.
Once again let go until it doubles its size (about 20 minutes). Put the cake in the preheated oven.
Top and bottom heat: 200 degrees
Hot air: 180 degrees
Baking time: 25-30 minutes
Then let the cake cool down on a wire rack.

Ober-/Unterhitze: 200 Grad
Heißluft: 180 Grad
Backzeit: 25-30 Minuten

Thank you for the recipe, Brigitte! I love this seasonal treat with whipped cream and get home sick when I think about it. I would like to add, that in California the best fruits to buy for German Plum Cake are fresh (as opposed to dried) French Prunes or Italian Prunes. Unfortunately they are only available in upscale produce markets.

Happy baking and quilting to you,
Hildegard.

Thank you Brigitte for that recipe. My mother and Oma used to make it all the time. Never got the recipe from them... now they are gone.

Hildegard can you help me with this?

1 Pck. vanilla is this one teaspoon of ours?
1 Pck. dry yeast = the same amount like our pck?
