Pattern choices for the modern quilter

Dienstag, 6. März 2012

Now which pattern should I choose for the pale pink color scheme? I could have considered several patterns to piece. There are for sure nice pastel quilts to get from a pieced pattern, like this one I had recently in my quiltingservice.

But – a flower is a flower and not a square, isn’t it?

So I invented instead this pattern.

pattern choices

A solid linen background and a huge flower appliqué. To enhance the print and give it some contrast to the background it’s surrounded by a green bias strip. The binding is mint. And the solid background should be quilted over and over with swirl quilting like in the wonderful example of Katie’s quilt.

You know the perfect print could be this one

Weekend Saturday Pink by Erin McMorris for Free Spirit2 Weekend Saturday Pink by Erin McMorris for Free Spirit.

What do you think?

Pink  Color choice  fabric choice

A very perfect example for a spring quilt in pastel colors is this “Ice cream” quilt, made from a pattern and fabrics of Kaffe Fassett. I had this wonderful quilt this week in my longarm service and I think the big flowers are a perfect fit for the fabrics.

I think that applique is just beautiful. Now that I've just gotten used to the more bold saturated colors in prints, you lure me to these soft pastels. I'm always about two steps behind.

Whow!

Your applique quilt idea is wonderful! I just love the big print with the green bias making it pop.
